Our twin engined Warships are now hoving into view, and it's time you heard some Maybach Music!
Our "Magnificent" new Heljan OO gauge Class 42 'Warship' locomotives are sailing their way towards us, with models expected to arrive into stock in late September 2026.
It's fair to say we've been rather excited about these "Majestic" beasts ever since the first samples arrived on our desks. After all, what's not to love? The Warships were British Railways at its most stylish and quirky, – part German inspiration, part Western Region visionary and 100% charismatic and "Daring."
Built for the Western Region's ambitious modernisation plans of the late 1950s, the Warships brought lightweight diesel-hydraulic performance to some of Britain's most prestigious expresses, proving that there was more than one way to design a "Formidable" locomotive. Their distinctive Maybach soundtrack, rakish good looks and evocative names (is there a class of diesel locomotives with better names?) have rightly earned them an all-new model to represent them in OO form.

We've got a brand-new video for you below showcasing the incredible ESU digital sound project fitted to our DCC Sound models. Recorded from preserved Class 42 D821 Greyhound, every bark, growl and unmistakable Maybach beat has been faithfully captured. Fair warning, however - after listening to it, there's every chance you'll find yourself pricing up an entire rake of Western Region coaching stock to go with it. Don't say we didn't warn you!
